The Boschung RWIS combines a suite of monitoring devices (atmospheric and roadway
sensors), and through the GUI of the BORRMA software interface presents a comprehensive
and continuous flow of precise information about a stretch of roadway or entire highway system by monitoring and tracking:
- Real-time weather data
- Road surface condition data
- Anti-icing spray events
- Camera-monitored traffic events
In addition to monitoring the above, additional features of the Boschung RWIS are:

Using the information the RWIS and spray programs provide (with a FAST system) agencies can determine budgets, schedules and inventory to match the unique needs of each roadway. Also, Boschung remote processor units (RPU) allow many methods of communication.
Another important part of the Boschung RWIS is the virtual stations, which use data from other RWIS stations to predict weather events in otherwise uncovered territory – making it possible to cover an overall area without additional equipment.
Five basic RWIS models available based on the type and number of roadway sensors deployed:
Virtual Freezing point Management
Interpolates data from other RWIS stations in order to cover
a larger geographic area without need for additional components,
power or sensors.
Passive Freezing point Detection
Using a combination of the BOPAS sensor and
meteorological weather station devices, with the latest
multiplexed signaling conditioning unit and Boschung
communication board for data collection and calculation.
Active Warning System
Uses the BOSO sensor, with passive and active sensors, which artificially cool by up to 2° C to provide an advanced frost warning alarm, and distinguish between the types of icing conditions. |

Active Freezing point Management
Combines ARCTIS & BOPAS sensors, which take into account all parameters influencing the freezing point; including previous anti-icing agent sprays and other variables.
Active Active Management
Combines ARCTIS & BOSO sensors, providing the most optimal reliability of data. Three alarm warning technology ensures system redundancy, and provides the most complete solution.
