SENSORS

Boschung America's surface condition management systems utilize the latest developments in atmospheric and pavement sensing technology. Atmospheric sensors are connected to the RPU by a standard LonBus and can be located up to 1500 feet from the RPU. Boschung invented and patented active/passive surface sensors report multiple surface conditions including a measured freeze point.  When used in conjunction with a FAST system these sensors allow the spray system to be activated before dangerous conditions occur making the Boschung ant-icing system the only proactive automated anti-icing system available.

Pavement

ARCTIS

The ARCTIS, working along with the BOSO III sensor, cools itself by up to 27ºF below the road surface and displays the actual freeze point via the BORRMA software, regardless of chemical on the roadway, eliminating the need for chemical algorithms and look up tables.

BOPAS

The BOPAS sensor used in combination with an RWIS  allows the measuring and condition of the pavement status as well as pavement temperature (dry, wet, salted, black ice, frost).

BOSO III

The BOSO III system uses an active/ passive sensor design.  The passive element measures pavement temperature, road wet/dry and water film thickness. The active element  cools itself by 3.6ºF below road surface temperature to determine a freeze point, alerting the user, via the BORRMA software, to a possible icy condition. This sensor also is capable of spraying a Boschung FAST or micro-FAST system.

These sensors determine current and future surface temperatures, are self-contained, flush mounted to the road surface, and built to withstand the harshest winter conditions and pavement surfaces.

Atmospheric

Subsurface Sensor

The subsurface sensor measures the pavement sub-base or subsoil temperature. The model TU sensor is buried horizontally or vertically below the surface of the roadway, according to the measuring depth required. The measuring element NI 100 or PT 100 is mounted on a metallic mass, the whole assembly being cast in a block of resin inside a metal cylinder.
